Heating: before the season

How do I get my heating business ready before the first cold snap?

An HVAC service van cut open in autumn, being restocked for heating: cooling crates stacked outside, furnace filters, flue pipe and heating crates on the shelves, and the last heating crate rising on the tail lift.

Digilu manages the heating side of your company as its own job, on its own calendar. The furnace and heat pump pages, the tune-up offer, the reviews that mention heat and the hours for a cold night are finished in the fall, while the crews still have a quiet week and before the first no-heat call comes in.

Month-to-month. No mandatory sales call. You own your website, content, data, and accounts.

Most heating and air sites are really air conditioning sites.

Open the website of almost any heating and air company and count. The photos are condensers. The reviews say the house is cool again. The home page talks about summer. Heating gets a single page that was written once and never opened since.

That is fine until the first cold night, when a homeowner whose furnace will not light looks for someone who clearly does furnaces. A company that looks like an air conditioning specialist loses that call to one that looks like a heating company, even when the same technician would have shown up from both.

What Digilu finishes in the fall

  • Separate, current pages for the heating work you want: furnace repair, furnace replacement, heat pumps, and whatever else you really service, such as wall heaters or boilers. Nothing you do not do.
  • The fall tune-up or safety check described once, plainly, with how to book it. The price goes to you for approval before it is published.
  • Review requests after fall tune-ups and early heating repairs, so that by December some of your recent reviews are about heat.
  • Cold-weather and after-hours hours set the same on the website, the Google profile and the directories before the first weekend anyone needs them.
  • The service area checked town by town for heating calls, which is not always the same map as summer.
  • Photos on the profile that show heating work, taken by your crews, added beside the condenser pictures.

The safety questions are yours, and they go up before winter

Homeowners search two heating questions that are not sales questions: what to do about a gas smell, and what to do when a carbon monoxide alarm sounds. Digilu does not write that advice. You tell us what your company says, which for most is to leave the house and call the gas utility or 911 first, and we publish your words, approved by you, where a frightened person can find them quickly.

It is a small page and it is the most useful thing a heating company can have on its site in January.

Why the fall and not the first cold week

For the same reason as cooling, turned around. A new page takes time to be found and read. A run of reviews that mention heating cannot be collected in a weekend. A directory can take weeks to accept a correction. Every one of those is finished by the first cold night if it starts in September or October, and none of them is if it starts that night.

There is a second reason. In the fall the owner has an hour. In January the owner does not, and the decisions that need an owner, which heating work to push and what the tune-up costs, get made badly or not at all.

If it is already cold

Then the page to read is the one for the middle of heating season, which is shorter and asks for less. Nothing is held back because you started late, and the planning on this page begins as soon as the calls ease.
